Dave Simson founded Hammerfield, a full-contact game, in 2012. Dave was motivated by the portrayal of “Thor” in the hit film “The Avengers.” This was the start of Hammerfield. The Sledgehammer in Hammerfield is modelled on Thor Odinson’s fabled hammer Mjolnir, the god of thunder. According to legend, Mjolnir seldom missed its mark and always rebounded to Thor’s right hand. Mjolnir signifies “crusher” in English, and Thor is the only one that can lift it. In Hammerfield, you score by either throwing a mallet at the goal or jumping and striking it.

The purpose is to hang a bell three metres above the ground. Each squad has eight players on the field as well as reserves. There are four hammer carriers and four soldiers among the eight participants.

The field is 68 metres wide and 100 metres long, with six 6-meter-diameter “safe zones” in each half. Every “safe zone” is made up of two sections.
