Hugo Brilliance propels ATK Mohun Bagan to seven successive ISL Derby victories: It was a scintillating night at the Salt lake where more than sixty-two thousand fans came along for supporting their club. ATK Mohun Bagan were too good on the night when Hugo Bumous and Manvir Singh helped the Mariners to secure a highly-contested victory over their arch-rivals, East Bengal. The full-time score read 2-0 in favor of the Mariners.

With the 63k spectators cheering, the game had a fitting start as both teams relied on the attack from the get-go. East Bengal players matched in every aspect but eventually succumbed to the pressure constantly put in by Hugo & co. However, the resilient defense of East Bengal did enough to keep the mariners at bay. Hugo found himself inside the box but his attempt was well-blocked by Sarthak as both teams went goalless at the break.
The Mariners had been found wanting in attacking third in the first half but Juan Ferrando’s half-time introduction worked to perfection as they launched attack after attack. Eventually, the Red & Gold brigade fumbled following a long-range attempt by no.10 Hugo Bumous. Goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh could have pushed that away but his mistake was costly as the Mariners broke the deadlock. Finally, ATK Mohun Bagan found their usual rhythm as they constructed a spell of attack. Manvir Singh eventually doubled the lead and Kamaljit once against was beaten at the near post.
Following two attacking substitutions by Stephen, East Bengal created a few chances but it was not enough to crack the Mohun Bagan defense. The inclusion of Florentin Pogba further solidified the defense and Juan & co went home with a clean sheet.
After the match, ATKMB players celebrated the derby victory with their fans going gaga and doing biking claps. ATKMB pick up back-to-back victories following an early setback loss to Chennaiyin FC. Meanwhile, East Bengal has won only one match out of four as Stephen Constantine continues to take the club in the upward direction.
