FC Goa hand a comprehensive defeat to Mariners at Fatorda, leap into third place

FC Goa get back to winning ways as they dominate ATK Mohun Bagan and pick up a comprehensive 3-0 victory over the Mariners at the JLN Stadium Fatorda. It was their first victory against ATKMB (Losing three and drawing one) as Carlos Pena’s side moves into the top 3 in the Hero ISL points table. Aibanbha Dohling, Mohamed Fares Arnaout, and Noah Sadaoui were on the scoresheet to spoil Juan Ferrando’s return to Fatorda

FC Goa vs ATK Mohun Bagan

Carlos Pena made two changes to the side that lost to Kerala Blasters FC last week. The injured Saviour Gama was left out of the matchday squad as Marc Valente returned at the heart of the defense, pushing Dohling to the left-back position. The other change raised a few eyebrows as Noah Sadaoui was benched and Redeem Tlang started on the right flank. ATK Mohun Bagan FC went with the same lineup.

The first half was action-packed and ended with everything but goals. In the opening seven minutes of the game, ATK Mohun Bagan FC’s shot-stopper Vishal Kaith produced five saves to keep a clean sheet intact for the visitors.

It was a physical contest in midfield, as four yellow cards were dished out in the opening half. Deepak Tangri, Manvir Singh, and Subhasish Bose had their names taken for the Mariners after committing cynical fouls. Meanwhile, Brandon Fernandes was the only FC Goa player to be booked in the first half.

The deadlock was finally broken five minutes into the second half when Dohling sprinted down the left flank to pounce on a long diagonal. The full-back muscled past Asish Rai, adjusted his footing, and smashed the ball in from an acute angle. The left-back scored the 100th goal of this season.

A minute into the final quarter of the match, FC Goa doubled their lead following a corner. Substitute Fares Arnaout beat Brendan Hamill to the ball before heading an Edu Bedia corner in just 11 minutes after coming on. Eight minutes from time, poor goalkeeping from Kaith allowed Noah to secure his fourth goal of the campaign from long range.
